It's a different world out there in Arizona, isn't it? The weather, the landscape, the houses (architecture), the people. America is such a big country with so many different lifestyles and climates to choose from. It's fun to have family all over the map. Fun to visit them in such different places - places so different from our home here in NYC.
I love it here in New York. I always have. Even though I wasn't born here or ever moved here until I was 22 years old. Still I think of it as my home. I'm proud of the people here, their style, their diversity, their toughness. I'm proud to represent for New York. I love our old houses in neighborhoods jam packed with people. I love the hassle of life here. Funny to say that, but it's true. I love to go different places but I love to come back. Hey, we're all different right? I hope you had a good trip. It'll take time to adjust. Have fun!
Life is filled with tests.
-A runner on third with two outs and your team up a run with you on the mound.
-10 seconds left, you have the ball and the score is tied.
-A friend offers you a beer or a cigarette.
-The clerk isn't watching and you want a candy bar.
When you think about it that way, the tests that you can study for are the easiest ones to take. Tests make you stronger Theo. I love you so much!
I've had a leather picture frame on my desk or on my shelf for about 15 years now. This guy that was a friend of your mom's at her old job gave it to us when Theo was born. I got maybe 12 or so old pictures of us stuck back to back in that frame - you and Theo as little kids, toddlers, Sunny as a puppy, Mom looking so young and happy. I'm learning now how it's possible for good people to be hurtful to people they love and to be unaware of it. I'm learning that sometimes, even when you point it out to them, they still don't see it. Think about that and think about how much you love your brother, your mother, and me. And then love us some more.
Thanks for sharing the production of The Iliad that you did with your class. It had a great feel for the story and was fun to watch. You guys really got into it and it showed. How are you feeling these days? Are you waking up in the morning excited by the prospect of a new day? Is that a fair question to ask a teenager? Probably not. The high school years are a confusing time when you have a lot of things to sort out and come to grips with. It's a challenge to be clear enough about your goals and dreams to be challenged - I should say to be excited by the challenges involved in achieving them. Well then, challenge yourself to be excited!
